How to Make a Good Impression [iTsArticles]

If you want to impress another person, such as your boss or a friend, you need to give them your best impression. This will create your personality and the kind of person you are around others.

Steps:

1. Plan on what you are doing. Are you having a BBQ? Watching a movie? You will give the impression that you care, if you start with a plan. Try not to be too strict with what you planned.

2. Make a shopping list for what you'll need. You will want to be prepared. You need food, cooking tools, etc.

3. Make sure everything is ready. Remember the time they are coming. Make sure you are prepared so you don't look confused and still putting things together when your guests arrive.

4. Organize your area. Take the time to clean and straighten everything out.

5. Be sure that you have the proper hygiene.

6. Greet them with a formal saying, for example, "Welcome _______________, it is a pleasure to see you this evening".

7. Be positive and relax. Sometimes it is hard to control yourself when you're too nervous. Think happy thoughts and blow away those negative thoughts of your mind.

8. If you are too nervous. You can rehearse some phrases you feel safe with. Before anything happens, you can imagine yourself during the reunion and think (in a positive way) what or how will everything take place.

9. Your body language is also important. Keep yourself open. Remember to stand up straight, have a smile on your face, try not to cross your arms or legs. Non-verbal language has 70% of influence in communication. It is even more important than what you say in words!

10. End the evening, when everything has come to an end, you can say goodbye with a great closer like "Thank you so much for coming _______. Come again!"

Tips:
  • Be very polite
  • Don't be too cheesy.
  • Be professional, especially if a co-worker or your boss is coming over.
  • Have a good time. Enjoy the meeting.

What Do Women Want In A Man? [Its Articles]

Its ArticlesIt’s easy to see why so many guys are confused and clueless about what women really look for in a man. Women sometimes voice a desire for one type of man but then actually choose the opposite type for their mate.

Why is this? The answer is that when women communicate their ideal man, they are expressing a well thought out opinion. This opinion is formulated in the thinking part of the brain. It draws on their past experiences and balances out a lot of pro’s and con’s. It’s logical and makes a lot of sense.

But the mechanism of attraction isn’t based on logic. It’s based on “chemistry”, on how a man makes a woman feel. Men are guilty of this too when it comes to the type of women that arouse us. These subconscious motivators are very powerful.

A woman may say that she wants a guy that listens to what she has to say. But then she chooses a man that dominates the conversation. Or maybe she wants a guy with a good sense of humor, but dates a man with big muscles or a man with lots of money.

While being a good listener is a great skill for keeping a relationship healthy, you can’t have a relationship until you’ve succeeded in attracting her interest in you as a sexual entity.

As you know, the reason for the attraction between men and women is to propagate our species. Getting pregnant may be the last thing on her mind when she sizes up a man. But the attraction that she feels is a subconscious search for a good father for her children. Back when we were all hunter/gatherers, a good father was a someone who could provide for his mate and his children. This was a man who had the strength and confidence to bring home the bacon, not someone who listened to his mate.

Women need men who are good providers, men who can ensure stability for her babies. For this reason a financially secure man has a better chance of landing a woman than an unemployed man.

A woman also needs to perceive that a man will be generous with his resources. A man that’s skillful at the hunt but refuses to share the food with his family makes for a poor mate. That’s why the giving of gifts has always been a part of the courtship ritual. A generous man is a good provider. This could very well be the origin the engagement ring tradition. It demonstrates that a man has the resources and the willingness to share it with his mate and her children.

So before you can have a relationship, you must succeed in attracting her first. In those first minutes of meeting a new woman, you’ll need to display that you’re a confident, healthy, strong, powerful male. This is what women really want in a man. This triggers that initial animal attraction that evolution has wired into her.

How To Approach Girls [Its Articles]

Its ArticlesHere’s a classic scenario that’s been happening all over the world since the beginning of time (well, not really). You notice a beautiful girl and she becomes aware of your glances. In the span of a few seconds you decide to do nothing and then just go about your business. This is a very common daily experience that a lot of guys won’t admit to.

Sometimes a brave soul will just go for it and approach her anyway. When he reaches her with a blanked out mind and a racing pulse, he does or says something causing an awkward moment for both him and the girl. Later that day he tries his best to suppress all memories of his humiliation.

There are a million and two variations to this but they all amount to missed opportunities. Guys with this problem all recognize that they’re having difficulties with approaching women. What they fail to do is resolve to fix their problem in a deliberate and methodical way.

This means gaining experience gradually by taking small baby steps. What I mean is that you need to get proficient at spontaneous socializing with strangers. You should make a goal of talking to as many strangers as you can during the course of your day. Your interactions won’t necessarily be full blown discussions. If you tried to force lengthy conversation on people they’ll probably get annoyed and back away.

Your interactions have to come across as a natural reaction on your part to something about the person or the situation. When you’re taking these baby steps, the goal is not picking up every female you come across. You’re just trying to initiate some talk which will naturally run its course, then you’ll move on.

I personally prefer to use humor whenever I can to loosen things up. There’s no quicker way to set a girl at ease than to make her laugh. I’ve found at least for me, that it’s far easier to make a girl laugh than a guy.

That’s because the girl is simultaneously hearing something funny and experiencing the thrill of attention from the opposite sex. It’s sort of a quick one-two punch that many women will automatically react to with laughter.

The humor doesn’t have to be all that funny. It only needs to be spontaneous and appropriate to the situation. The other day I got three women at a Star Bucks to laugh at this phrase: “eeny, meenie, minie, moe”. There’s nothing gut wrenching about the phrase itself. But it seemed the natural thing to say when three female employees were ready to take my order and it wasn’t clear who I should give my order to. An hour later at a different location, I caused a girl to burst into laughter when I said the word “five”. You had to be there to understand.

The formula for this type of humor is spontaneity, appropriateness, and being playful. There’s many formulas for humor, but that’s the one that works for me. You’ll want to avoid humor that make you seem like a clown, because you want to come across as an interesting and exciting male.
The easiest way to begin your baby steps is to start with women (you’ve not met before) that you’re expected to interact with anyway. So you’ll be targeting every bank teller, cashier, waitress, grocery bagger, librarian, and so on. You will want to get them to talk about something that’s not required by their job. So asking a waitress what the day’s special is doesn’t count as a social interaction. And remember that humor is a great ice breaker.

When this becomes second nature, then it’s time do your little interactions with women that you’re not expected to interact with. As you do this, start asking open ended questions that aren’t prying, to get her to open up more. With consistent repetition of this every day, you’ll reach the point where approaching and getting to know a woman that you take a fancy to won’t be that big of a deal. If she rejects you, it’s not because of awkwardness on your part. It’ll be because of circumstances that have to do with her. And besides, if you get rejected, so what? Who cares?

How To Be Attractive To Women If You’re An Introvert [Its Articles]

Are you an introvert? If you are, don’t be too hard on yourself because you’ve got a lot going for you. To start with I’d like to make it clear that introversion is not the same as shyness.

Its Articles

Because introverts get their energy from within themselves rather than from others (as extroverts do) they tend to lag in the social skills. This can make them awkward and uncomfortable in social situations. So introverts can suffer from shyness but there are many introverts who do not.
Know that you are not alone in the world. Thirty percent of the world’s population are introverts.
Some examples of successful introverts: Johnny Carson, Neil Armstrong, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Jerry Seinfeld, Tiger Woods, James Dean, Clint Eastwood, and Steven Spielberg.
When it comes to getting women, being an introvert means that you will go after certain types of women that are compatible with your personality type. It would also be advisable to meet women in places more suitable to your temperament. So this probably rules out the noisy bars and night clubs of your extroverted brethren.

It also helps if you fit into certain introvert stereotypes that society admires. One example of this would be someone who’s a deep thinker that can offer profound and intriguing insights on a variety of subjects. Given that many introverts live a life of the mind, you probably wouldn’t have to work very hard to cultivate this type of persona.

If you’re successful at this and if you choose a compatible female, she will see you as this mysterious deep well that never fails to surprise her with intriguing insights.
If this is not ‘you’ then perhaps you’re exceptionally creative and you can build your persona around this particular strength. I’m not saying that you have to be someone you aren’t. I’m saying that many women are intrigued by men who are different in a positive way. Men who are deep, mysterious. The confident introvert naturally has this quality in spades. Extroverts get to play the ‘bad boy’ to attract women. Introverts get to play the ‘mystery man’, the cool James Bond who’s not going to be a boring push over.

Because of their great powers of focus, many introverts occupy professions such as doctor, writer, scientist, professor, etc. These are high status positions and males of high status are always considered desirable by the opposite sex.

If you’re like a lot of introverts, it wouldn’t hurt to work on your social skills. This will allow you to be relaxed enough so that you can center your focus on that woman you’re talking to right now. You don’t want your focus diverted by self consciousness. Being relaxed is a sign of confidence which most women regard as desirable in a man.

There are a number of ways to improve the social skills. You can make an effort to socially interact with as many people as you can throughout the day. Or if you find this too exhausting (as many introverts would), join groups and communities that share your interests and become active and involved. Being able to socialize is a skill that gets easier and easier with practice. The brain is remarkable in it’s ability to pick things up and adapt.

More Advice For The Shy Introvert – Interacting With Women [Its Articles]

Here are more suggestions at how to beat your shyness and comfortably interact with women:
Its Articles

1.) Learn how to externalize your focus away from your yourself and on to the situation at hand.
Anytime you’re talking with a person whether a store keeper, bank teller, your sister, or anyone at all, practice on focusing 100% on what they’re talking about.

Don’t be planning ahead about what you’re going to say, because that’s self directed focus. Instead, just follow along with what’s being said and if you find you have nothing to add, don’t worry about it for now. The exercise is to habituate you to externalizing your focus to what’s being said when another person speaks.

When you’re feeling up to it, try going to a social event with the idea of doing nothing but listening to what others are saying. Since you’re not trying to impress anyone (just yet), there’s no pressure on you to perform. Go up to the group that seems to be having the most fun and listen in to what’s being said.

If you find yourself laughing at some point, then you’ve succeeded at externalizing your focus away from yourself. Try to lose yourself in whatever is being discussed. This is the first step to relating to people.
Notice that when you’re focused on yourself, the words of other people are nothing but words. When you have externalized your focus, other people’s words become experiences that you experience vicariously.

2.) Don’t place women on a pedestal.
They are just people with female sex organs. They have as many flaws and imperfections as the other half of the human race. If you have any sisters, then you know exactly what I mean.
By seeing them as having the qualities of the average person, talking to them will be much easier. And besides, if you see them as being too good for you, they will sense this from your behavior and that will kill any attraction.

3.) Don’t see women as sex objects.
I understand that this can be hard to do sometimes, but seeing someone as an object makes it impossible to relate to them. An object is an object, whether it’s a chair, desk, hammer, or centerfold pin-up. Sane people don’t relate to objects, they relate to people.

Perhaps you might practice your social skills on someone who won’t distract you with their stunning beauty. Then move on to more attractive women.

How To Be A Flirt – It’s All In Your Attitude [ItsArticles]

Its ArticlesIf you’re constantly telling yourself that you need to learn how to talk to girls, you’re approaching the problem the hard way. In fact, viewing it as a problem that has to be overcome will turn it into internal battle with yourself.

The harder you try to start a conversation with a girl, the more tense and nervous you’ll get. You might get the words out ok but the girl will immediately pick up on your nervousness and if she’s a stranger, it probably won’t turn out well.

A better way is not to take it seriously at all but instead look at it as being an exciting and fun game. Rather than telling yourself that you just got to figure out how to talk with girls, tell yourself that you’re going to learn how to be a really great flirt. See the difference? The second way is more empowering. It’s ambitious. Ambition is good.

Think of this as a fun new hobby. Because it’s a new hobby, you’ll realize that you won’t get proficient in a day but will GRADUALLY get better with practice. You’ll be practicing on strangers that you meet whether at the store, mall, or at social occasions.
When you do this you won’t care about the outcome one way or the other because it’s just a game and it’s with strangers that you’ll never see again anyway. As long as your behavior isn’t outrageous or insulting, no harm is done either to you or the girl. It’s just harmless fun. Repeat that sentence to yourself as often as necessary: It’s just harmless fun.

When you get a girl to laugh and talk with you, it will be intoxicating. Believe me, it will lift your spirits like nothing else can. After that first success, you’ll want to do it again, maybe with the same girl or maybe with someone else.

Remember to inject fun and playfulness into your interactions. Flirting is playful behavior intended to arouse sexual interest. Don’t worry about the sexual interest part, just focus on the playfulness.
There’s another benefit to playful, humorous flirtation: it not only makes you desirable to the girl that you’re flirting with, it also elevates your status among the other women who may be watching. This is called social validation. These women see that another woman is enjoying your company. So in their minds, you must be a fun and interesting guy.

Good flirts make other people feel special and enjoy doing it. It builds confidence, can make you a lot of friends and is a playful way to safely test the waters when it comes to romance.
It’s important that all of your focus should be on making the girl respond in a good way. Absolutely none of your focus should be self conscious. Always keep your mind directed outward to the girl.

Remember that if you can make others feel good, you will feel good.

Nine Tips On Attracting Women [Its Articles]

Here’s nine useful things to give you the edge in your quest for love.

Its Articles1.) The power of a smile. A smile shows that you are relaxed and confident. It also relaxes others and is definitely an ice breaker. Add some cockiness to your smile and you’re projecting an alpha male image. A complete turn-on for women.

2.) Dressing well. How you dress can have a dramatic effect on your physical attractiveness. If this is true with respect to female attractiveness (and we’ve all done a double take when the plain Jane at work shows up at a social occasion in a stunning dress), it’s true for male attractiveness. New, stylish clothing that fits well is a must. Another important item: your shoes. This seems to be important to women, so be sure that your shoes are stylish, polished, and clean.

3.) Fitness. Being fit and healthy attracts women. If you’re not athletically inclined and hate working out, then try looking fit. This means having a good posture and walking with a relaxed athletic grace. Don’t hunch your shoulders, keep them back and down. Clothing with a good fit helps.

4.) If you have an independent streak, then now is the time to show it. Women love this because it’s a sign of strength. Independence is the opposite of neediness. Most women thoroughly detest neediness. If you find yourself in a relationship with a women that wants a needy man, it’s probably not healthy.

5.) Know what you want from life and what you want in a woman. If you give the impression that any female with two legs will do, it will reflect badly on you. If you have no standards, it implies that you don’t think highly of yourself. You will seem undesirable and desperate.

6.) If you have a quick mind, use it. Women love wit and cleverness. Appropriate humor delivered rapidly is key. Even a remark that’s only mildly funny can be very effective if delivered quickly.

7.) Be a flexible conversationalist. The more that you can talk about, the greater your ease at relating to a variety of women. It’s so much easier when you’re on top of the subject being discussed. There’s no groping around for the next thing to say. Being able to connect with a woman because of some common ground is powerful. How do you do this? Be curious about the world around you. Observe things. Read some books.

8.) Don’t make obvious efforts at blending in. Blend in too well and you’ll become a piece of wallpaper. You want to stand out in some way. Be unique. Don’t follow the pack because that’s what beta males do. Be a leader.

9.) Be a tease. Knowing the proper way to tease a woman can be very enjoyable for both your and her. It creates sexual tension (always a good thing) and it demonstrates that you’re not phased by her stunning beauty. While everyone else dishes out the usual compliments, you’ll come across as different. Teasing is an art and should be playful. If you spent your childhood teasing your sisters (I was merciless) then you’ll be a natural. If you tease inappropriately, it will backfire. Do it skillfully or don’t do it at all.

How to Have a Great Conversation [ItsArticles]

The art of conversation takes practice, but is not as hard as you might think. With some patience and these steps, you can learn to relax and enjoy a great conversation.

Steps :

1. Be confident. Being around confident people makes you feel good. For example, having a confident boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, or a friend makes you feel better. The other person's energy and enthusiasm is infectious, and makes all the conversation participants feel confident and comfortable. Projecting confidence is the key to a good conversation, so don't be shy.

2. Find out about the person you'll be talking to before you actually talk to them, if you can. If it's someone who you work with, or go to school with, look at their department website, or see if the person is on any social networks before talking to them for the first time. (But remember! There is a fine line between finding out general information about someone, and coming across like a stalker.) The information you get though can be a good starting point for conversations.

  •    "I was looking at the biochemistry department website and saw that you're working on a pretty interesting thesis! How did you come to choose that topic?"

  • "I saw on the office memo that you're working on the outreach project for local schools. How's that going?"

  •   "Milly here told me that you went skydiving!"

  • 3. Ask questions. What do they like to do? What sort of things have they done in their lives? What is happening to them now? What did they do today or last weekend? Identify things about them that you might be interested in hearing about, and politely ask questions. Remember, there was a reason that you wanted to talk to them, so obviously there was something about them that you found interesting. However, try to space out your questions or they'll feel like you're interrogating them which is very bad and closes off friendships.

  •    See How to Come Up with Good Conversation Topics for ideas.

  •    Ask clarifying questions. If the topic seems to be one they are interested in, ask them to clarify what they think or feel about it. If they are talking about an occupation or activity you do not understand, take the opportunity to learn from them. Everyone loves having a chance to teach another willing and interested person about their hobby or subject of expertise.

  •    Try to get them talking about something they enjoy thinking about and something that you're interested in hearing or else the conversation isn't fulfilling and one of you will feel unsatisfied with it.

  • 4.  Listen. This is the most important part of any conversation. Pay attention to what is being said. Make acknowledging noises or movements to indicate that you are still listening. A conversation will go nowhere if you are too busy thinking of anything else, including what you plan to say next. If you listen well, the other person's statements will suggest questions for you to ask. Allow the other person to do most of the talking. They will often not realize that it was they who did most of the talking, and you get the credit for being a good conversationalist - which of course, you are!

Practice active listening skills. Part of listening is letting the other person know that you are listening. Make eye contact. Nod. Say "Yes," "I see," "That's interesting," or something similar to give them clues that you are paying attention and not thinking about something else - such as what you are going to say next.
Paraphrase back what you have heard, using your own words. This seems like an easy skill to learn, but takes some practice to master. Conversation happens in turns, each person taking a turn to listen and a turn to speak or to respond. It shows respect for the other person when you use your "speaking turn" to show you have been listening and not just to say something new. They then have a chance to correct your understanding, affirm it, or embellish on it.

    5.  Consider your response before disagreeing. If the point was not important, ignore it rather than risk appearing argumentative. On the other hand, agreeing with everything can kill a conversation just as easily as disagreeing with everything. When pointing out your difference of opinion, remember these points:

Agree with something they said (state common ground) before disagreeing.
Try to omit the word "but" from your conversation when disagreeing, as this word often puts people on the defensive. Instead, try substituting the word "and"--it has less of an antagonistic effect.
Playing devil's advocate (pretending to defend the opposite point of view) can be a good way to keep the conversation going, but if you overuse this technique, you could end up appearing hostile.
Don't manipulate the talk to serve your own agenda and steam-roll your counterpart. If you come away from the conversation feeling full of yourself, you used the occasion to show off your wit and knowledge. Try to keep from using a conversation to boost your ego.

    6.  Do not panic over lulls. This is a point where you could easily inject your thoughts into the discussion. If the topic seems to have run out, use the pause to think for a moment and identify another conversation topic or question to ask them. Did something they said remind you of something else you have heard, something that happened to you, or bring up a question or topic in your mind? Mention it and you'll transition smoothly into further conversation!

    7.  Remember that sometimes if a conversation isn't going well, it might not be your fault. Sometimes the other person is distracted/lost in thought, isn't willing to contribute, or is having a bad day. If they don't speak or listen, then they are the ones not using good conversation skills, not you. But in any case, it's still a good idea to strive to do your part as a good conversationalist.

    8.  Know when the conversation is over. Even the best conversations will eventually run out of steam or be ended by an interruption. Smile if you're leaving, tell them it was nice talking to them, and say goodbye. Ending on a positive note will leave a good impression.

    Tips:

    •  Forget yourself. Dale Carnegie once said, "It's much easier to become interested in others than it is to convince them to be interested in you." If you are too busy thinking about yourself, what you look like, or what the other person might be thinking, you will never be able to relax.
    •  The best conversations come from gaining new understanding about the topic discussed or the person. Try to lead into personal stories and anecdotes. These give limitless conversation and are revealing about the character of a person.
    •  It's okay to talk about yourself as long as the person listening is interested and getting new information about you or the topic. People don't like to rehash things they already know or have thought about so try to give a new perspective or way of thinking.
    •  While you want to talk about a topic, make sure you pause in between sentences, which allows for the other person to ask a question to clarify if they are understanding you and/or for them to interject with a thought of their own. Remember, you want to have a conversation, not be a story-teller.
    •  A compliment usually does the trick. For example, a "I like your handbag" could lead to a discussion over stores, bags, or anything.
    •  Always make eye contact and be sure the person knows you are listening. Some people like to half-listen and usually make horrible conversationalist. If the person is doing this or is doing it often or all the time then they're not the person you want to have a conversation with.

    Warnings :

    •    Choose carefully when asking personal questions. You do not want to venture into overly personal issues. Even if the other person might be willing to talk about it, you may end up learning things that you really do not want to know. You certainly do not want the other person to think afterward that you coerced them into revealing personal information.
    •    Beware of topics that can be inflammatory - such as religion and politics - and don't venture into them unless you know the person has roughly the same convictions as you, or the circumstances otherwise allow for pleasant discussion. Again, it's fine to disagree and can be nice to talk about differences, but it can also be a quick step toward an argument.
    •    Try not to ever cut the person off mid-sentence, or when they naturally pause between sentences (or when trying to remember a detail). It seems disrespectful and it makes it seem like you think that what you have to say is more important than what others have to say. Let the person finish their thoughts and then continue on with thoughts of your own.
    •    Don't make a flat statement of opinion without adding, "What do you think about that?" or, "Do you think that could be right?" or, "Is that how you see it?" If you don't give people the chance to make up their own minds, they will contradict you.
    •    Always be sure to make lengthy comments back, always saying "Okay" or very short-worded sentences can cause the person you are talking to to get agitated or upset. This applies with the half-listening mentioned above.

How to Approach a Group of Girls [ItsArticles]

So the girl you like is in a crowd of girls, always surrounded by her friends. How are you supposed to ask her out? Here are some tips and tricks to acting natural and getting to know her and her circle of friends.

    Steps:

    1.   Be presentable. Make sure your breath smells good and you are wearing comfortable clothes. If you are unappealing, this may turn her off!

2Stand near her and make light conversation with one of your friends. You both should know the game plan so he isn't offended when you turn your main attention to the girls.

    3.   Wait for her conversation to go smooth. Wait for her to say something funny or something that stands out, and look over at her. Repeat what she said, and when you get a response, slowly join into the conversation.

    4.   You should be able to get to know your crush and her friends! This may take you far and help you make new friends and build your confidence.

    5.    If you are turned down by joining into her conversation, act casual and shrug it off. She may have been embarrassed or be having a conversation privately with her friends. Turn to your buddy and tell him that you have to meet another friend, and quickly rush off the scene, making it believable.

    Tips :

  • Say something funny when you make the move! If they laugh, this means you're in! Add to the conversation slowly and eventually you'll be talking like you're best friends.

    How to Look Approachable [ItsArticals]

Parties and other social functions can really be a drag sometimes. You stand by the punchbowl or sit down on a sofa and watch everybody else mingling, but nobody seems to want to chat with you. You're attractive, witty, and interesting; what's wrong with these people? It could be that you're sending out the wrong signals. No matter how beautiful you are or how good a conversationalist you can be, if you look intimidating, preoccupied or scared, people might not be inclined to talk to you. Here's how to use your body language to look more friendly and approachable.

    Steps :
    1.   Be aware of what your body is projecting.. We all speak with body language, and you don't have to actually say anything to communicate a message to others. Unfortunately, your body may not always say what you want it to. If your gestures and posture are saying "I'm too busy", or "Leave me alone," it's not likely people will approach you. Other people watch your body for cues, so it's important to pay attention to what cues you're displaying.

    2.   Open up. When people are uncomfortable in a situation they have a tendency to display closed body language. Examples include folding your arms in front of you, hunching over, and positioning your body so that you're angled away from others. These signals imply that you'd rather be left alone. If you'd rather not be left alone, make sure you're displaying open body language by angling yourself toward other people, sitting or standing with an upright (but not stiff) posture, and uncrossing your arms.

    3.   Use your eyes. Your eyes are not only your window to the world, they're also other people's window into you. If you bury your head in a book, stare at the floor, or look up at the ceiling, you close that window. This is all well and good if you don't want to be bothered on your commute to work, but if you want to look friendly and approachable, scan your environment with your eyes, and don't be afraid to make eye contact with people.

    4.   Smile. A warm, inviting smile can put anyone at ease, and it also makes you look like you're having a great time, which makes people want to be around you and get in on the fun. If you catch someone's eye, be sure to give a little smile, and be sure to smile often during small talk. It lets people know you appreciate talking to them. Smile with your eyes. When you do make eye contact, don't stare or glare. Instead, soften your eye expression and make your eyes "smile" or "twinkle" to show that you're friendly and interested in talking to the other person. If you're not sure how to smile with your eyes, get in front of a mirror and practice smiling without using your mouth. The eyes are actually more important than the mouth to what most people consider a "genuine" smile.

    5. Beware self-comfort gestures. Nervousness manifests itself in body language in many ways. It's okay to feel nervous, but if you really want to socialize and meet people you should be careful not to appear nervous. Touching your hand to your face, especially putting it over your mouth, or, if you have a drink, holding your glass by your mouth can give people the impression that you're not interested in talking to them. Metronomic gestures, such as foot tapping, can signal impatience or boredom, so people may think you don't have time to talk or aren't interested in conversation. Other nervous habits — picking at your cuticles or biting your fingernails for instance — can also make you appear distant or lost in thought. Once again, just pay attention to what your body is saying, and you can avoid putting up these barriers.

    6. Approach others. If people aren't approaching you, why not go to them? Nothing makes you look more outgoing and approachable than actively seeking out people and talking to them. If you're in an environment where you don't know anybody, the longer you wait alone, the more uncomfortable you're bound to feel. See How to Talk to Strangers.

    7. Address any deeper issues. Your body language usually communicates your deepest emotions at any given time, and it's not easy to fake body language. The best way to look approachable, then, is to actually enjoy yourself in social interactions. If you feel anxious in social settings, or if you're uncomfortable around the opposite gender, get over your anxiety by seeking out opportunities to interact with people. If you have especially strong social anxiety (a common condition), you may find it helpful to seek out counseling or talk to your doctor.

    Tips :

  • Aside from body language, other elements of your appearance can affect how approachable you look. Dressing in clothing in light/bright colors with textures that look soft to the touch (think velvet, cashmere, angora, corduroy) will make you stand out more in a crowd and look more approachable.
  • In a social situation, such as a party, offer to help out in some way. Your host or hostess will likely be appreciative, and sometimes having a specific task may help you feel more focused than just standing around feeling awkward. It's a great way to meet others and be sociable without having to feel you don't know what to do. Excellent tasks: cutting vegetables, washing dishes, keeping the music going, picking up used plates, etc. At the same time, don't over-focus and use the task as an excuse for not engaging in conversation.
  • Reading a newspaper or wearing headphones can ease the monotony of a long train ride, but in situations where you want to look approachable, lose these props.
  • Position yourself for conversation. If you're standing up, but everybody else is sitting down (or vice versa) people will find it difficult and somewhat awkward to talk to you. If you want to talk to someone, or if you're already talking with someone, position yourself so that you can comfortably talk.
